NFT question

I'm starting a NFT system for the estate where I work. Would foam-rubber (like a dish washing sponge) work for the "pot"?

I'm in round pvc pipe.

I think that would work just fine, as long as the material is able to be penetrated by the plant's roots. The most common thing to use would be "oasis cubes". They are made from the same material that you would stick fake flowers into.
